Who is your book crush?

For Valentine's Day I wanted to create a bulletin board of book crushes. I'm not sure where I first heard this or I would give credit. I created a little form for students to fill out. You're welcome to use it below. It isn't anything spectacular and took just a few minutes to throw together.

I have three romance books that I'm going to give away after putting all of the participants' names in a random name generator. I wanted to mark the holiday in some way, but not add anything time consuming to my plate. After putting the forms on the circulation desk I had six entries within 30 minutes. I think the girls will enjoy this. I'll be surprised if a boy participates, but you never know.

So far the crushes are Fang from Maximum Ride, Gale from The Hunger Games, Four from Divergent, Dimitri from Vampire Academy, Yong Soo from Hetalia, and Lend from Paranormalcy. Quite a variety.

My book crush is Henry from The Time Traveler's Wife. It doesn't hurt that he was a librarian! If I had to choose a YA character it would probably be Four from Divergent or Tucker from Unearthly.

Who is your book crush?

  1. Oooh...good question! Do I have to narrow it down to just one crush?

Here are a few of mine: Mr. Darcy from Pride & Prejudice; Magnus Bane, Jace Wayland, and Will Herondale from Cassie Clare's Infernal Devices and Mortal Instruments series; and both Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson.

    1. You don't have to narrow it down. I usually develop a crush on all male main characters as I'm reading.:)

    2. I was reading this, and I'm glad you said that because I am the exact same way. Unless there is something seriously wrong, I am crushing on the male lead by page 75.

  2. I definitely have a book crush on Jace from the Mortal Instruments series as well! He's a lot of fun! I think I would want Magnus as my BFF, haha :)

  4. Definitely stealing this for a display/conversation starter with my students.

Oh, and I agree, I couldn't pick just one crush on book characters - usually it is whomever is the lead in the book I'm currently reading!! However, there are a couple I could name: Jamie Fraser (Outlander series by Gabaldon) and Roarke (JD Robb series).

Oddly, it's usually the best friend of the main character in most YA books. Go figure. Possibly because it feels weird (in my head anyway) to crush on teens, even in books! But mostly due to the best friend is almost always the wise cracking, sarcastic, prankster in the book OR the good hearted, boy next door, often overlooked by the heroine (a Duckie/Jon Cryer from the movie Pretty in Pink type character).

    1. Yeah, I have to think of them as who would I have liked when I was in high school. :)

    2. hloy - You and I have to get together. Jamie and Roarke are definitely my favorites.

I'm also stealing this idea for my library.

  5. My earliest book crush was Calvin O'Keefe from A Wrinkle in Time. He liked Meg the way she was, clumsy, glasses, and moody. She was a lot like me at the time.

  6. LOVE this display--and I'll be using it, too! Think of all the libraries that will have some version of this display. :) My book crush would be Ben Wolf from Crutcher's Deadline. . . and maybe Chris Crutcher, too!

  7. Love this idea, and the comments make me wish we could all sit and share over coffee. We have so much in common! My crush would be in whatever book I'm currently reading, which right now is Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, so my crush is Clay. I'm going to steal this idea, including the prizes, and I will use a different question for boys. Might wait until March and ask the question, "Who would be your best friend?" That would maybe allow our middle school boys to be less reluctant.
